What will I do?

Forklift trucks are used in a huge number of different businesses where goods need to be moved. From your local Tesco's and Garden centre, to massive distribution centres, shipping ports and even international airports. There's a huge variety of different forklifts too from a simple hand pallet truck to massive machines that lift loaded containers. As a forklift engineer it's your job to keep these trucks moving through regular maintenance and emergency repairs. Apprentice Forklift Engineer

By joining our apprenticeship you will be trained to maintain fork lift trucks and become an expert in electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gas powered engines and much more. Like today's automotive industry not all the work is spanners and oily rags either. Forklift engineers regularly use palmtop systems, laptops or other diagnostic equipment to identity problems or fine tune performance.

While you're an apprentice you'll learn valuable skills both at the workplace and during your studies. You will be based at one of our client sites or in the workshop and will have a Mentor who will work to develop your skills and knowledge. As Barloworld take on a number of apprentices every year there is a good chance you will have contact with other apprentices and can learn from them.

In order to obtain your NVQ3 qualifications you will be attending a specialist college four times a year for two weeks at a time.
