Mathew Lowe - 4th year Apprentice

28/5/2010
I am currently in my 4th and final year of my apprenticeship. I have enjoyed my time as an apprentice and now I am looking forward to coming out of my time as an apprentice and becoming an engineer.

Whilst in my apprenticeship I have studied at the City of Bristol College for 3 years on a 2 week block release. It consists of travelling to Bristol College 4 times over a 12 month period, were you receive good quality training on the basics of light vehicle maintenance. Some of the other training we received were on engines, gearbox's, electrics, hydraulics, safety precautions, and good working practice.

I also receive high quality "In-House Training" on new and existing product ranges both in electrics and engine driven trucks.

As well as product training you will receive more in-depth training on electrics, engines, transmission, from out own Technical Training Department.

Whilst working in the workshop in Warrington I have made some good friends due to the relaxed and friendly environment. I have learnt a lot from my mentors and other engineer's knowledge and experience.

The range of work that I undertake in the workshop are, wiring faults, engine and transmission faults, overhaul and refurbishing of all fork lift trucks.

I have also learned basic engineering and fabrications skills. Like welding, gas and electric, drilling and tapping and burning.

When I finish my apprentice I am looking at continuing my education to hopefully achieve HNC and HND levels and progressing within Barloworld!
